16th November Filming

Filming has gone well today :D The camera battery was alot better than the one we kept getting, so we managed to get alot of footage! We will capture it in our lesson tomorrow morning, and hopefully it will have turned out well!

  1. Yes the filming was really successful.
We filmed two narrative sequences and two performance sequences during the day. One of the narrative sequences was the sequence in which the lead singers character within the video leaves for war on a train and she says her farwells. The sky was clear and the sun was shining brightly so we used this to our advantage and used the sun as our lighting source. We used a real steam train in our video, so this sequence required alot of planning to ensure we were able to have access to the train without the interferance of the public within our shots, as there modern clothing would be out of place in our video. We filmed at LLangollen railway station on a day that a steam train was in the station. We required permission to have access to the train before hand. We were pushed for time when using the train so we arived for filming at 9am and were told that the train would be leaving at 10:30am. We had storyboarded this sequence before hand but a few shots required change because of the enviroment and surroundings. For example, we had to adjust a particular shot to avoid showing a fire extinguisher within the frame. We used many natural effects to our advandage, such as the use of the actual smoke from the train. We framed the shots carefully to ensure the modern surroundings did not come into shot and interupt our 1940's theme.
The second narrative sequence was a memory within our narrative in which Meredith's character walks down a canal with her lover. This sequence was relatively simple to achieve and we generally stuck to our storyboard. Attention had to be payed when framing a shot as many modern buildings and items were surrounding the canal.
Both locations, the railway station and the canal also required to be used for performance sequences. The perfromance sequences were stationary shots with no camera movement. Meredith sang directly into the camera. We filmed each performance sequence three times using two different shots. We used MS and CU shots with Meredith singing the entire song each time. We also used some LS's in two verses in case we needed to re establich sapce when editing.

The footage came out really well when viewing it in the editing suite. A few adjustments had to be made to one or two shots as frames may of had too much space, but overall the footage was entirely sucessful. ANDY
